Google Play Store finally comes to Chromebooks

You’ve got a reason to be excited if you are a Chromebook user. Now, you will be able to download apps from Google Play Store on your Chromebooks. This means that the apps that you were running on your phones and tablets will now run on Chromebooks as well. According to Google, you can use the apps from the Google Play Store on your Chromebooks without any effect on the speed, security or experience.

Google Play will begin rolling out the feature in early June in the developer channel with M53 on the ASUS Chromebook Flip, the Acer Chromebook R 11 and the latest Chromebook Pixel, and support for non touch devices will come in the markets soon. You can stay updated with the list of supported Chromebooks here.

This move by Google will benefit developers in a big way as they will now be able to bring their apps to laptops too. Also, Google hopes to address the existing needs of Chromebook users such as being able to run more apps, use Office files more easily, connect with a variety of apps, and do more when they’re offline.

Now, there will be two app stores for Chrome OS now : Google Play and the Chrome Web Store but Chrome Web Store is still going to remain the same and will continue to have the same themes and extensions.
